Window cleaning and external walls at Wakehurst Place

Cleaning the windows and walls at Wakehurst Place

We recently had the privilege of working at the magnificent Wakehurst Place in Sussex, where we were tasked with a comprehensive clean of the windows and external walls. Being such a prominent and historically significant site, the project required a sensitive touch and a high level of expertise to ensure the structures were treated with the respect they deserve.

Assessing the condition of the stonework

Over the years, the building exteriors had naturally accumulated a layer of environmental grime and organic growth, which had begun to dull the appearance of the stonework and leave the glass looking tired. With our twenty years of experience in exterior cleaning, we knew exactly how to approach the job without risking any damage to the underlying materials.

Using a gentle cleaning approach on the masonry

Our approach began with a thorough assessment of the external walls to identify the most suitable pressure levels and cleaning agents. Given the delicate nature of the masonry, we opted for a low-pressure wash combined with specialist, environmentally conscious chemicals designed to break down algae and pollutants gently. We meticulously applied these solutions, allowing them the necessary dwell time to lift the staining before performing a soft rinse that revealed the natural character of the stone once again.

Reaching every window with our reach-and-wash system

For the windows, we used our professional reach-and-wash systems to ensure every pane, including those in hard-to-reach areas, was left completely streak-free and sparkling. The system allowed us to work safely and efficiently around the building, even at height, without the need for ladders against the historic fabric.

A brighter facade and advice for the future

The result was a clean that brightened the entire facade and improved the clarity of the views from within the building. It was satisfying to see the architecture reclaimed from the elements, looking fresh and well-maintained for visitors to enjoy. To keep a property of this scale in top condition, we always recommend regular inspections of the gutters and soffits to prevent water runoff from staining the walls again. Routine window cleaning also prevents mineral buildup that can become etched into the glass over time. We take great pride in supporting our local heritage sites and residential neighbours alike across Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath. If your own property is in need of a professional refresh, please do get in touch with us for a chat about how we can help.
