A weathered driveway across Sussex
We recently travelled across Sussex to assist a homeowner who felt their driveway had lost its kerb appeal. Over several years, the surface had become heavily weathered, with a significant buildup of moss in the joins and a slippery layer of green algae spreading across the stones. The customer was concerned that the driveway not only looked neglected but was also becoming a hazard underfoot during wet weather, so they asked us to restore it to a safe, clean condition.
Adjusting the pressure for delicate stone
With over 20 years of experience, we know that every surface requires a tailored approach. We started by clearing the loose debris before setting up our professional-grade pressure washing equipment. Because the driveway featured delicate stone elements, we were careful to adjust our pressure settings. Using too much force can damage the pointing or scar the surface, so we utilised a high-flow, low-pressure technique that lifts stubborn dirt without causing any structural harm. We also applied a specialist treatment designed to break down the organic growth at a molecular level, ensuring that the lichen and algae spores were properly neutralised rather than just moved around.
Rinsing and treating the full area
Once the deep cleaning was complete, we performed a thorough rinse to clear away all the lifted silt and residue, revealing the natural colours of the stone that had been hidden for years. To finish the job and protect the customer’s investment, we applied a professional treatment to the entire area. This process helps to inhibit the return of weeds and moss, keeping the driveway looking pristine for much longer than a standard wash would allow.
A safer, cleaner entrance
The end result was a bright, welcoming entrance to the home that looked as good as the day it was first laid. To keep a driveway in this condition, we always recommend a gentle seasonal sweep and a professional soft wash every year or two to prevent organic matter from taking hold again.
