Annual patio maintenance in Chailey
We recently returned to a lovely property in Chailey to carry out the annual maintenance of a large block paving patio. Being invited back by our regular customers is always a pleasure, as it allows us to see how the surfaces we treat have held up against the Sussex weather over the seasons. On this particular visit, the homeowner wanted to address the natural buildup of winter grime and light moss that had started to settle in the joints between the blocks. While the patio was in relatively good structural condition thanks to previous care, it had lost its vibrant finish and was beginning to look a little dull and weathered.
Assessing the block paving before cleaning
To begin the process, we cleared the area and performed a thorough assessment of the paving. With block paving, it is vital to use the right balance of pressure to ensure the surface is cleaned without compromising the integrity of the sand joints or shifting the blocks themselves. We utilised our professional-grade jet washing equipment, carefully adjusting the flow to lift away stubborn dirt, algae, and lichen. We also applied targeted, eco-friendly cleaning solutions designed to break down organic growth at the root, which helps to keep the stone looking fresher for much longer than a standard water-only wash.
Rinsing and finishing the patio surface
Once the deep clean was complete, we performed a meticulous rinse of the entire area, ensuring all debris was cleared from the site and the drainage was flowing freely. The cleaning removed the accumulated grime and brought the original colour of the brickwork back through, leaving the patio looking far brighter and more even in appearance. We worked carefully around the edges of the property, taking care not to disturb any adjoining planting or boundary walls, and left the whole area tidy once we had finished.
Advice for keeping the patio clean
To help the finish last, we advised the customer on the importance of keeping the surface clear of fallen leaves and organic debris, which can trap moisture and encourage regrowth during the damp autumn months. Regular brushing and occasional clearing can make a real difference between annual visits, and it was good to see that the block paving itself remained in sound condition throughout.
