Gutter vacuuming in Sussex

We recently headed out to a property in the heart of Sussex to tackle a set of gutters that had become completely overwhelmed by the changing seasons. The homeowners had noticed water spilling over the sides during recent heavy downpours, which is often the first sign of a blockage that could lead to damp issues if left unaddressed. Upon arrival, it was clear that the high-level guttering was packed tight with a mixture of decomposing leaves, moss, and silt that had washed down from the roof tiles over the years.

Clearing the build-up from ground level

To ensure the best possible result for this project, we brought out our specialist gutter vacuum system. This piece of equipment is a staple in our toolkit because it allows us to clear out every bit of debris from the safety of the ground, even in those awkward spots above conservatories or extensions where ladders are difficult to place. We carefully worked our way around the perimeter, using the high-suction power to lift the heavy, sodden material directly into our collection tanks. This method is much cleaner than traditional hand-clearing as it prevents any sludge from falling onto the driveway or flowerbeds below.

Checking the downpipes and flushing through

Once the main blockages were removed, we focused on the finer details. We inspected the downpipes to ensure the flow was entirely clear and used a low-pressure rinse to flush through the system. This step is vital as it confirms that every joint is watertight and that water is being directed away from the foundations as intended. We also took the time to wipe down the exterior of the uPVC guttering and fascias, removing the green algae streaks that often build up, which instantly brightened the appearance of the entire roofline.

A clear system and a cleaner roofline

The finished result was a perfectly functioning drainage system that looked as good as new. We advised the customers that while our twenty years of experience ensures a thorough job, it is always wise to have a professional inspection once a year, particularly in areas with overhanging trees. Regular maintenance prevents the weight of wet debris from pulling the brackets away from the house.
