Gutter cleaning and repairs in Burgess Hill

We recently visited a property in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, to sort out a problem that many homeowners face as the seasons change. The gutters on this RH15 residence had become severely blocked with a heavy build-up of damp moss, rotted leaves and silt that had washed down from the roof tiles over several years. The blockage had become so substantial that water was overflowing during heavy downpours, leaving unsightly streaks on the masonry and damp patches forming near the foundations.

Dealing with a badly blocked system

When we arrived, it was clear the gutters had not been cleared for some time. The weight of the debris had started to take its toll on the system, and we noticed several sections where the seals had perished and the brackets had begun to sag. With over twenty years of experience in exterior cleaning across Sussex, we approached the job with our usual focus on safety and thoroughness, working carefully from ladders and ensuring we had a clear view of the work as we went.

How we cleaned and repaired the gutters

We began by manually removing the bulk of the organic matter, making sure every downpipe was cleared of obstructions so water could flow freely once again. To treat the exterior of the gutters, soffits and fascias, we applied a gentle cleaning solution designed to lift stubborn grime without damaging the plastic or the surrounding paintwork. We then used a controlled, low-pressure rinse to wash away the residue, which revealed the original clean finish of the uPVC. This process also allowed us to see exactly where leaks were occurring, so we were able to replace the faulty seals and realign the guttering to ensure the correct fall towards the outlets.

A fully functional drainage system

The result was a drainage system that worked properly again, with the gutters looking clean and the home better protected from water damage. We cleared away all the debris we removed and left the property tidy. To help the homeowner avoid the same problem building up again, we advised that an annual inspection and clearing is the best way to prevent future blockages and costly repairs. Regularly removing moss from the roof can also extend the life of your gutters by reducing the amount of debris that enters the system.
