Gutter clearance for a Sussex home

We recently visited a property in Sussex to carry out a full gutter clearance. Like many homes, the gutters had been left for a while and had become significantly blocked over the changing seasons. The owners had noticed visible overflow during heavy rain and were concerned about potential dampness, so they asked us to take a look.

What we found in the gutters

When we arrived, we assessed the situation and found the guttering was filled with a dense mix of decaying leaves, moss and silt. The buildup had become quite heavy, which was putting unnecessary strain on the brackets and preventing the drainage system from working as it should. It was clear the gutters had not been cleared for some time.

The cleaning process we followed

We started by manually clearing the larger debris to ensure the main channels were free. For this type of work, we use a combination of traditional techniques and modern equipment so every inch of the guttering is reached safely and thoroughly. After the initial clearance, we carried out a controlled pressure rinse to flush out the smaller particles and fine grit that often settle at the bottom. We also paid close attention to the downpipes, checking for any internal blockages that could cause issues further down the line.

Finishing the soffits and fascias

To finish the exterior look, we used a gentle professional cleaning solution on the soffits and fascias, rinsing them down to remove the grey streaks and algae that had accumulated over time. This gave the front of the property a much brighter appearance and completed the job properly.

The result and aftercare advice

Once we had finished, the system was fully free-flowing again and the plastics had a clean, fresh finish. We took care to tidy the surrounding pathways before we left, ensuring the site was spotless. To keep gutters in good health, we generally recommend a professional inspection at least once a year, ideally after the autumn leaves have fallen. This simple bit of maintenance prevents costly water damage and keeps the exterior of the home looking its best.
