Block paving and weed infestation in Sussex

We were recently called out to a property in Sussex to attend to a driveway that had begun to look rather tired and neglected. Over the years, the block paving had become heavily infested with weeds, moss, and deep-seated grime, which not only affected the kerb appeal of the home but also made the surface quite slippery during the damp winter months. The customer was keen to have the area restored to its former glory while ensuring the finish would be durable and protected against the elements for the foreseeable future.

Applying weed killer before pressure washing

With over twenty years of experience in exterior cleaning, we knew that a thorough multi-stage process was required to achieve the best possible result. We started by applying a professional-grade weed killer to target the stubborn growth rooted deep within the joints. Once this had taken effect, we utilised our high-powered industrial jet washing equipment. We are always careful to manage the pressure levels, ensuring we remove every trace of lichen and dirt without damaging the integrity of the blocks or the sub-base. We meticulously rinsed the entire area to clear away the dislodged debris, leaving the surface perfectly clean and ready for the next phase.

Re-sanding and sealing the driveway

Once the driveway was completely dry, we returned to carry out the essential finishing touches. We applied kiln-dried sand to the joints, brushing it in thoroughly to stabilise the blocks and provide the structural support the driveway needs. To ensure the longevity of our work, we applied a high-quality sealant. This creates a protective barrier that helps repel oil stains, inhibits future weed growth, and enhances the natural colour of the paving. The transformation was significant, moving from a dull, weed-choked space to a bright, clean, and well-protected entrance.

Keeping the driveway in good condition

To keep a driveway in this condition, we always recommend regular sweeping to prevent organic matter from settling in the joints. An occasional soft wash or a gentle rinse will help maintain the seal and keep the colours vibrant.
